Introducing... The Commission

Everyone knows the wedding is about the bride (and maybe a little bit about the groom). But the wedding party plays a huge role. Things are finally moving with wedding planning and now it’s time to choose our wedding party. This sounded like a very simple concept. “I’ll just choose my best friends and family.”  I grabbed a pen and paper and began to jot a few names down. Before I knew it, I had 14 bridesmaids and a dog-of-honor. This is when I realized this process may be just a BIT harder than I had initially anticipated.

There's so many different ideas on the correct size of a wedding party. Chris and I, it turned out, had dramatically different ideas of how big our wedding party should be. I was all for having 6-7 people per side (I am the extrovert in this relationship- so I thought.) Chris, however, shocked me when he handed me a list of 10 names. Not gonna happen buddy. After going back and forth for about two weeks, we compromised and went with seven per side. Now we just needed a name. “Sam and Chris’ wedding party” just wasn’t cutting it, so introducing…

THE COMMISSION...

Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.” – Oprah Winfrey

These 14 people have been outlets to us during many occasions, ups and downs on this roller coaster called life. Every one of them has impacted us and we wouldn’t be who we are without each and every one of them.  Welcome aboard to #ForeverWallace and we cannot wait to start this journey with this crazy bunch.

Now how did we let everyone know who was in the wedding party? Remember I said I LOVE creating events. Insert Wedding Party Reveal! Last Saturday, we surprised our chosen ones with gifts and booze (No way they can say no to alcohol), asking them to help us get hitched!  Our friends and family piled into Cove Lounge in Harlem, confused as to why we summoned them there. After everyone figured out why they were in attendance, we played a couple of ice breaker games with the bridesmaids and groomsmen to introduce everyone.  The guys took home the prize after the first game and my ladies closed out the night winning the next game.

Picking your bridesmaids will be fun they said. “This is the easy part”. Yea RIGHT! For some, this will come as a breeze, but not for me. I have been blessed with several groups of friends and genuine people in my life. However, these seven women have impacted my life greatly. Through our daily talks, they keep me grounded, remind me of my ambitions, goals, and dreams. These women helped mold me into the woman I am today and I’m forever grateful for them. The Bridal Party aka “Sam’s Squad” consists of the dopest college roommate ever, 2 friends for over 28 years, three of my closest friends and my fabulous younger sister.

The groomsmen consists of Chris’ two brothers and his five best friends. (Everyone not pictured.) Chris' groomsmen have all been in his life for decades and made his choice an easy one. Lucky guy!

Last but not least, the mother of the bride and the groom just had to be in attendance. They’ve already let us know they want to be a part of everything. (Still don’t know how I feel about this).

So, in Sam and Chris fashion, we gifted them some things as well- Spoiled rotten I tell ya.
